James H. Cowen

James H. Cowen

Chelsea, MI formerly of Cleveland, OH, Clarkston, MI, and Bradenton, FL.

Age 87, died Monday, February 3, 2014 at the Chelsea Retirement Community. He was born August 12, 1926 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, the son of James and Ethel (McBride) Cowen.

Jim was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Drayton Plains, Westminster Presbyterian Church in Ann Arbor, and Palma Sola Presbyterian Church in Bradenton, FL. He was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church. Jim was a Senior Engineer, Account Manager, and Plant Superintendent while working for General Motors and Rockwell International, and was a lifetime member of the Society of Automotive Engineers. Jim was an Aviation Cadet in the US Navy Reserves during WWII.



On July 17, 1948, he married Barbara L. Krem in Waterford, MI, and she survives. Other survivors include two sons, Dr. Mark (Ginny) Cowen of Chelsea, Eric (Tami) Cowen of Dexter; a daughter, Elizabeth Cowen of Dexter; eight grandchildren, Joshua (Jocelyn) Cowen, Stephen (Jennifer) Cowen, David Cowen, Caroline Cowen, Laura (Andy) Imdieke, John (Becky) Cowen, Anne Cowen, and Jenny (Mike) Rodgers; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris (Jack) McElwain of FL; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Phil in 1984.

Funeral services will be held Friday, 11:00 am at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1500 Scio Church Road, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48103, with Rev. Stephen Carl officiating. Private burial at Oak Grove East Cemetery in Chelsea. The family will receive friends at Cole Funeral Chapel Thursday, from 5-7 pm. Robert Tripp

Died: Monday, February 03, 2014
Age: 82
Robert Ernest Tripp, a lifelong Oxford resident, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2014. He was 82.

Born August 17, 1931 to Percy and Florence (Sheffield) Tripp, Bob was the loving husband of Donna (Campbell) Tripp for the past 56 years. Besides his wife, he is survived by their children, Dean (Jean) Tripp of Fort Wayne, Indiana, DeAnne (Curtis) Nordine of Ludington, Ronald (Debra) Tripp of Chevy Chase, Maryland, and Julie Wagner of Oxford; and by his grandchildren, Eric (Rebecca) Tripp of Woodburn, Indiana, Rachel Tripp of Gaithersburg, Maryland, Katherine Tripp of Chevy Chase, Maryland, Caleb (Shawna) Nordine of Ludington, and Kayleigh Nordine of Grand Rapids and by great-grandchildren Tyler, Taylor, Emily, Ella and Eyrelyn Tripp of Woodburn, Indiana. He is also survived by his niece Connie (Campbell) Rankine of Port Huron and nephew Kirk (Anne) Campbell of California. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Roger Tripp.

A 1949 graduate of Oxford High School, Bob served his country in The U.S. Air Force and spent a career managing the office at American Aggregates’ Oxford plant. Bob served his community in numerous ways, including many years on The Oxford Village Council, as a member of American Legion Post 108, in various capacities at Immanuel Congregational Church, as a founding officer of Oxford’s senior housing complex (Oxford Square Apartments), and for many decades as a member and past president of The Oxford Lions Club.

During his life Bob enjoyed working in his yard, and camping with his family while traveling the State of Michigan; and as years passed, spending winters in Florida and taking walks through the town he had always called home.

Friends may visit at the Lynch & Sons Funeral home, 39 West Burdick Street, Oxford, on Friday, February 7th, from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. Funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 8th, at Immanuel Congregational United Church of Christ, 1 Hovey Street, Oxford, with Pastor Liz Wilson officiating. Interment will be at the Oxford Township Cemetery.

Carl E. Seefeld

Seefeld, Carl E.; age 78 ; of Lake Orion; passed away February 3, 2014. Beloved husband of Carol; dear father of Carl “Ricky”, John, Sherry Lacy DeLisle, Tammy and the late Billy; also loving grandfather of 5.

Daniel Patrick Tencza

Died: Monday, February 03, 2014
Age: 70
Tencza, Daniel Patrick, Age 70 of Lake Orion; passed away February 3, 2014. Loving husband of Elaine for 32 years. Dear father of Ken, David, Donald, and Ravena (Mark). Grandfather of Mark Jr. Also survived by his dog buddy “Phoenix.”

Daniel worked 47 years for GM as skilled trades machine repair. Taking care of his family was the most important thing to him. He was very good hearted and loved spending time up north at his cabin where he could enjoy the water.

CURRY, DANIEL J., of Clarkston, died February 2, 2014 at 79 years of age. Beloved husband of the late Joan; loving father of Brian (Barb) Curry and Dawn (Darrell) Blakesley; dearest grandfather of Joshua (Johnna), Jacob and Lucas. Elizabeth R. Gitter, of Oxford, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014. She was 83.

John Ellis

Age: 78
John Ellis, of Oxford, passed away peacefully at his home which he shared with Linda Mika on Sunday February 2, 2014. He was 78.

He is survived by his daughters Cheryl (Rick) Feldmann and Mary (Jerry) Newland; his sisters Evelyn Brooks, Margaret Mann and Martha Britht; and brother Larry Ellis; 4 grandchildren; Charles and Craig Feldmann, Ben and Kelly Harrison and 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Jessie (nee: Silva), parents, Hazzie and Margaree Ellis and his siblings Terry, Winston, Merlene and Agnes.

John retired from General Motors after 25 years and Oxford Parks and Recreation after 10 years of service.

Vera Wood

Vera Wood went to be with the Lord on February 2, 2014. She was 95.

She is survived by her five children; Claudia (Charles) Dotson, Joyce (Jerry) Piceu, Bryce (Robin) Wood, Marilyn (Larry) Baird and Gary (Cindy) Wood. Also 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband Claude Wood.

Leary Q. Wood

Leary Q. Wood of Fenton formerly of Ortonville was born Sept. 16, 1927 in Wilson’s Mills, N. Carolina to the late Columbus C. and Martha (nee: Boyd) Wood. He married the former Eaine Landrum on September 8, 1950 in Rossville, GA. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Elaine Wood; one son, L. Scott Wood; two granddaughters, Darcy (Patrick) Martin and Angela (Landon) Bryant; six great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Sydney, Lucas, Meredith, Lilly and Logan; he was preceded in death by one daughter, Peggy Sue Wood.; Leary was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, WWII and retired from G.M. after 34 years. He was a member of the Ortonville United Methodist Church, charter member of the Ortonville Lions Club and the Ortonville Jaycees He also formerly served on the Brandon Twp. Fire Board and Brandon School Board for 10 years. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at COATS VILLAGE FUNERAL HOME, ORTONVILLE.
