Lester E. PETERS

Age: 92
PETERS, Lester E. of Clarkston, formerly of Flint. May 7, 2014; age 92. Loving husband of Nita for 67 years. Beloved father of Bob (Joyce) Edwards, Sue (Dave) Hora, Jan (Dan) Fife, Debbie (Stephen) Cox, Kirk (Kim) Peters and Craig (Becky) Peters. Grandfather of 8 and great grandfather of 12. Brother of Charles (JoAnne) Peters, James (Lila) Peters and Irene Lomax. Preceded in death by his grandson, Frank and siblings Josephine, Sandra, Alice, Nina and Alden. Lester retired from Grand Trunk Western Railroad. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Chapel Service with military honors Wednesday, May 14th at 11:00 am at Flint Memorial Park. Mary Wargo

Age: 91
Mary Bernadette Wargo O.P., of Oxford died May 7, 2014. She was 91.

Mary is survived by her sister Theresa Kerczewski.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary Wargo; her brothers, John and Andrew Wargo; her sisters, Mary Hamzik, Anna Perger, Ellen Galbraith, Verna Wargo, Susan Dressick, and Helen Jones. Sister Mary Bernadette entered religious life on June 10, 1936 and made her final profession on August 18, 1945.

Sister Mary served in the ministry of education in Elementary and High Schools staffed by the Dominican Sisters of Oxford for 28 years. She had served at STS Cyril and Methodius, STS Andrew and Benedict, both in Detroit; Sacred Heart in Flint, Our Lady of the Lakes in Waterford, MI, St. John the Baptist in Central City, PA, STS Cyril & Methodius is Windber, PA, the Dominican Academy Motherhouse, DeLima College and Catechetical Instructions in Flint and Central City, PA. After her teaching ministry, Sister was called to serve as the Congregations General Treasurer for 25 years.

She also served as buyer and treasurer in the mission homes where she was assigned. Sister Mary loved teaching and encouraged her students to work to their potential and tried to prepare them for college and future vocations in keeping with their Christian heritage and faith.

In 1993, due to health problems, Sister resigned from being the General Treasurer.

She continued to serve as local treasurer for the Motherhouse Community and served wherever she was needed.

A Mass of Celebration was held Monday, May 12, 2014 at the Dominican Motherhouse.

Donations can be made in Sister Mary’s memory to the Dominican Sisters of Peace Retirement Fund—Oxford Motherhouse.

Arrangements were entrusted to the OXFORD CHAPEL of Huntoon Funeral Home.

Anthony Saverio PALAZZOLA, Jr.

Age: 51
PALAZZOLA, Jr., Anthony Saverio. of Ortonville; May 4, 2014; age 51; loving father of Miranda and Mariah; Beloved son of Anthony and Barbara Palazzola; brother of Joseph (Kathy) Palazzola, Kathy (Matt) Gohlke, Karen (Jerry) Fortuna, Linda (Terry) Carmean, David (Crystalyn) Palazzola and Lisa (Vince) Orsini, also survived by many caring nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousin. Special friend to Tristan Gabriel, Don Kevern, Leonard and August. Anthony was a 1980 graduate of Clarkston High School where he was involved with the Marching Band. He was also a member of the Clarkston Community Band. Anthony served in US Navy and was part of the search and rescue on the U.S.S. New Orleans. While in the service he learned to fly small planes. He loved to fly and survived a midair collision in March of 1986 and overcame many challenges from his injuries for 28 years. Special thanks to all the staff at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Pontiac. Funeral Service Thursday 10AM at the Lewis E. Wint and Son Funeral Home where friends may visit Tuesday 3-9pm and Wednesday 3-9pm. Charles L. Van FLETEREN

Van FLETEREN, Charles L.; of Clarkston; May 4, 2014; age 86; preceded in death by his wife Rogene; beloved and devoted father of Charles, Stephen (Dawn), Christopher, Lisa Kreza and Amy; cherished grandpa of Matthew, Andrew, Elizabeth, Jessica, Melissa, Amanda & Alex; following graduation from Baldwin High School, Birmingham, he served 5 years in the U.S. Navy, including 11 months in the Pacific on the Cruiser Wichita C.A. 45 and 3 years on the Sea Leopard SS 483. Following his military service, Charles became a master plumber, Plumbers Local 98. In 1962, he co-founded Stilwell and Van Fleteren Mechanical Contractors Inc. and operated 31 years out of Rochester Hills. After retirement in 1993, he and his wife of 60 years enjoyed winters from their vacation home on Nettles Island, Florida. Friends may visit at the Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home, Clarkston, Wednesday 3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass Thursday 10:00 a.m. at St. Daniel Catholic Church, Clarkston. Inurnment All Saints Cemetery. SCHATZ, WILBUR “JAY” of Ortonville is the beloved husband of Camille E. Schatz; loving father of Curtis (Heidi) Schatz, Rodnie (John) Cook, Brian (Cheryl) Schatz and Aimee (Dean) Smith; step father of Michael (Kathleen) Fey and Sandra Girskis; dearest grandfather of 13 and great grandfather of 4. Jay retired from General Motors as a Master Electrician after 32 years of service. He was a 1952 graduate of Pontiac Central High School and was a veteran of the U S Army. Richard Morehead

Age: 84
Richard C. Morehead, of Oxford, died May 4, 2014. He was 84.

Richard was the loving husband of Karen Morehead for 55 years; beloved father of Kurt (Joan) Morehead of White Lake, Eric (Maureen) Morehead of VA, and Kristyn (Richard) Hutson of AR; cherished grandfather of 6, great-grandfather of 3; dear brother of Gary (Karen Jo) Morehead of Warren. Richard was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. In his retirement, Richard could be found cutting grass at Oxford Hills Golf Club.

A celebration of Richard’s life will was held Thursday, May 8, 2014 at King of Kings Lutheran Church.

Inurnment will be at a latter.
