Mary Trudell Billman

Age: 76
Mary Carol Trudell Billman, age 76, of Roscommon, formerly of Ortonville, died May 16, 2014 at The Brook of Roscommon. The family will receive friends at St. Anne Catholic Church on Friday, May 30, 2014 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Mass officiated by Fr. Gerry Frawley. A luncheon will follow at the church and graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Eastlawn Cemetery in Lake Orion.

She was born December 25, 1937 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of the late Joseph Harold and Marion Cecelia (Eclow) Trudell. Prior to moving to Roscommon two years ago, she was an Ortonville resident, and a Kindergarten teacher with Lake Orion Public Schools for 36 years. Mary loved to sing and was the choir director for many years at St. Anne Catholic Church where she was also involved in most of the church’s charitable projects and volunteered her time where needed.

Mary also loved animals, which was exemplified in her passion for dog breeding, handling and judging. For over 35 years she traveled worldwide to show and judge dogs. She was also involved in 4H as a leader in dog and horse showmanship. She was a member of Bearded Collie Club of America and the Löwchen Club of America.

Preceding her in death were her parents and a former spouse, Richard Billman.

Mary is survived by her son, Tod (Sarah) Billman of Roscommon; granddaughter Andrea (Jeff) Wade of St. Helen; sister, Barbara Trudell Thomas of Mio; two brothers, John “Bob” (Kathy) Trudell of Chelsea and Richard Michael (Shirley) Trudell of Overland Park, KS; several nieces and nephews, and many four-legged friends especially her American-Canadian Champion Löwchen, Maya.

Joanne Marie Czarniak

Died: Wednesday, May 28, 2014
Age: 81
Joanne of Goodrich was orn June 7, 1932 in Detroit to the late William B. and Helen (nee: Alison) Calverley. She married Edward F. Czarniak on November 7, 1953 in Royal Oak. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years; eight children, Edward T. (Laura), Tony (Theresa), Tim, and Phillip (Dianne) Czarniak, JoEllen (Mark) Grant, Margaret (Al) Majewski, Julie (Steven) Langlois and Donna Diment; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren with one on the way; two brothers, Richard (Marion) and Robert (Kathy) Calverley; two sisters-in-law, Marlene and Judy Calverley. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Louann Czarniak. Joanne was a volunteer at Genesys Hospice, North End Soup Kitchen, St. Joseph’s Guild and was very active in various church activities. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and was a prayer warrior. Mass of the Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014 at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 7296 Gale Rd., Grand Blanc. Paul Sutherby

Age: 82
Paul P. Sutherby, a lifelong resident of Leonard, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at the Lake Orion Nursing Home surrounded by his family. He was 82.

He was born April 27, 1932 the son of Jesse & Marion (Porter) Sutherby, Jr. in Imlay City. Paul graduated from Almont High School in 1951. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He retired from General Motors Truck and Bus in Pontiac after 30 years of service.

He married his loving wife, Connie, on August 15, 1970 in Lake Orion.

Paul loved spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed Bible study and gardening. He was also known for his spectacular Christmas decorations both inside and outside his home, annually welcoming the community to tour.

Paul is survived by his loving children Julie (Michael) Hiroskey of Dryden and Paul E. Sutherby of Leonard; 4 beloved grandchildren and 5 beloved great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Don (Joyce) Sutherby of Imlay City and Gary (Dolores) Sutherby of Leonard. He is predeceased by his wife Connie, one grandson Ché Hiroskey and his parents.

A funeral service was held Monday, June 2, 2014 at the Dryden Wesleyan Church.

Pastor John Carr officiated.

Burial was at Lakeville Cemetery (501 Drahner Rd.) in Addison Twp.

Genevieve E. Gordon

Died: Monday, May 26, 2014
Age: 98
Genevieve E. Gordon, age 98 of Greenville, passed away on Monday, May 26, 2014, at the Laurels of Kent in Lowell, Mich. She was born on Dec. 7, 1915, in Bay City, Mich., the daughter of Albert and Josephine (Deska) Drolett.

On May 31, 1947, Genevieve was married to Floyd J. Gordon in Holly, Mich., and he preceded her in death on Sept. 25, 1985. Also preceding her in death were her parents, a daughter, Claudia Bigelow and a son, James Floyd Gordon.

Surviving is one daughter, Jo Gordon-Anderson of Greenville, Mich. and a son and his wife, Greg and Judy Gordon of Plymouth, Mich., eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Gordon has been a resident of Greenville since 2007. Formerly of Clarkston, she was very active in the Clarkston United Methodist Church and the Stephen Ministries. During World War II, she devoted much of her time to the American Red Cross. She enjoyed needlework, loved to sew as well as teaching sewing, but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and helping others wherever she could. She will be missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service beginning at 11:00 AM will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at the Clarkston United Methodist Church in Clarkston with Rev. Amy Mayo-Moyler officiating. A luncheon will follow the service at the church.

There will not be any visitation held as cremation has already taken place in accordance with Mrs. Gordon’s wishes. Final interment will be at the Lakeview Cemetery in Clarkson.

For those desiring to do so, the family has suggested memorial considerations can be made to the Clarkston United Methodist Church. There will be envelopes available at the church or at the Simpson Family Funeral Home in Sheridan.

Raymond Woodrow Barrow

Age: 51
Raymond Barrow died after a hard fought battle with cancer. Raymond was born, July 14, 1962, in Pontiac, Michigan and was raised in Ortonville, Michigan. Raymond resided in Bradenton, Florida. He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Ann Barrow. Raymond is survived by his loving companion Audrey Cooley and his children, Suzanna and Richard Ray (Little Ray) Barrow living in Bradenton, Florida; his father and step-mother, Ray and Patt Barrow who reside in Bradenton, Florida; his brother, William (Bill) Barrow who lives in Ortonville, Michigan; and his sister Valerie Bartkus who resides in Houston, Texas. A memorial service will be held one day during the week of August 17 in Bradenton, Florida. Remembrance donations can be made in Raymond's name to the American Cancer Society.
