Ross Pottinger

Age: 61
POTTINGER, ROSS; of Lake Orion; age 61; January 7, 2014. Ross is the son of Betty and the late Henry Pottinger; father of Grant Pottinger; and brother of Bill (Gale) Pottinger and Tom (Irina) Pottinger.

Wiley Lewis

Died: Tuesday, January 07, 2014
Age: 79
Wiley Jack Lewis, Sr. “GG”, of York, South Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, SC. He was 79.

Jack was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a retired heavy equipment operator. He spent his youth in Oxford, Michiganand went to school there. He still has friends and family in the area.

He was the son of the late William Harold Lewis and Genevieve Pender Lewis. He is survived by wife, Irene Evens McClure Lewis, best friend and riding buddy Cody; Sons and their families, Wiley Jack Lewis Jr. (Phyllis; daughters Heather and Rebecca), Forrest W. Lewis (Marty; sons Zach and Eathon), Mark T. Lewis (Lisa; children Kera, Echo, and Dillon), and Mathew W. Lewis (Tabitha; children Mathew Jr. and Andrea, Andrew, and Jesse). He had 18 Great Grandchildren who knew and spent time with him. He was preceded by his sister, Helen Dalgleish and brother, Lloyd Lewis.

On Saturday Jan. 11, 2014, a memorial was held at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Rock Hill, SC. Pastor Jeff Lingle officiated.

Gerald Soldan

Died: Monday, January 06, 2014
Age: 85
Soldan, Gerald “Don”; of Nuncia, MI, age 85; passed away January 6, 2014. Don, was one of 7 children born to the late Celista and Gordon Soldan. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Charlotte (nee: Lamphier); dear father of Sandra Bryant and Helen (Chuck) McAvinchy; loving grandfather of 10 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his children Mary Myers and Johnny Soldan.

Don, was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and outdoor activities. He was best known for his colorful stories and his remarkable mechanical abilities. He built a home in Lake Orion that he once lived in. His iron constitution prevented him from missing one day of work in his 25 years working for the Lake Orion D.P.W. After retirement he became a “snow bird” with Charlotte spending winters in Florida.

SOLDAN, GERALD “Don”; of Nuncia, MI, age 85; passed away January 6, 2014. Don, was one of 7 children born to the late Celista and Gordon Soldan. Joseph A. Bullock

Died: Monday, January 06, 2014
Age: 88
BULLOCK, JOSEPH A; age 88; born October 18, 1925 in Owens Crossroads, Alabama; Lifelong resident of Lake Orion; passed peacefully at home January 6, 2014. Joseph was the husband of the late Donna Bullock; and is survived by his children Joe (Lynn) Floyd, Jolene, Aaron (Laurie), and Darla (Dave); 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; leaves behind one sister Helen, and one brother Alvin Bullock.

He was retired from the Lake Orion school system after 25 years as custodian. And was also a certified locksmith for many years at J.A.B. locksmith, lifelong fraternal order of the Lake Orion Eagles.

Francis W. MACCO

MACCO, Francis W. “Frank”; of Clarkston; January 5, 2014; age 68; husband of Kathie; father of Vincent (the late Britta) Young and Jason (Kelly) Macco; “Papa Frank” of Kelsey, Rachel, Emily, Landen and Parker; brother of Margaret (Richard) Kalishek, Jean (Jerry) Chapman, Linda (Eric Burley) Hurtado, Dale (Nancy) Macco and Rena (Ralph) Rott; Frank served in the U.S. Army with the Army Corps of Engineers. He retired as a quality control engineer and enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family. Memorial service on his birthday, Friday, January 10th at the Lewis E. Robert Reinhold Kern

Age: 67
KERN, ROBERT REINHOLD, age 67, was born on October 1, 1946 in West Bend, Wisconsin and passed away on January 5th, 2014 at his home in Lake Orion. Dear father of Tari Kern (Chris Moceri), Kristine Kern (MaryBeth Collins), Matthew Kern (Rajani), and Jonathan Kern (Emily). Grandfather of Tyler. Son of Cordell and the late Ralph Kern. Dear friend of Becky O'Neil.

Robert grew up in Kewaskum, Wisconsin and attended Holy Trinity Catholic School until 8th Grade, and then attended Kewaskum High School. He went to college at University of Wisconsin and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

He loved cars and spent his life in the automotive industry, working his full career and retiring from General Motors after 43 years. In the latter half of his career, he was heavily involved with specialty vehicles and helped develop many of them for the yearly SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) show in Las Vegas. He was widely respected in the industry because of his professional nature and the level of integrity he brought to work each day. He also enjoyed traveling, had a love of life, and he lived his to the fullest.

A Funeral Service was held Saturday January 11th at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Road, Troy (Between Maple & Big Beaver), 248-362-2500. The family received friends on Saturday before the service.

Lloyd Lake

Died: Saturday, January 04, 2014
Age: 91
Lloyd R. Lake, of Oxford, died Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Lapeer County Medical Care Facility. He was 91.

Lloyd was born April 11, 1922 to Ward and Ethel (Jewell) Lake. He married Margaret "Marge" Kibbe over 71 years ago. Mr. Lake proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, from November 12, 1942 until January 1946. Lloyd retired from Ford Motor Company, where he worked over 28 years as a test driver at the Romeo Test Track. Before working for Ford Motor he owned and operated Lake's Garage in Lake Orion.

Lloyd enjoyed deer hunting, drag racing, working on “big block” Chevy engines, bowling and playing horseshoes.

Lloyd is survived by his loving wife: Marge; sons: Larry (Donna) Lake of Hadley and Terry (Linda) Lake of Lapeer; grandchildren: Larry, Ryan, Matthew, Nathan and Lisabeth; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters: Doris Hill, of Independence, MO, and Margaret Mayer, of Lake City, MI; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Abraham and Donald Lake.

Afuneral service was held Tuesday, Jan. 7 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to to Lapeer Adoptable Animals, 2396 W. Genesee St., Lapeer, MI 48446.

Michael Black

Died: Saturday, January 04, 2014
Age: 36
Michael Edward Black, of Oxford, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 4, 2014. He was 36.

He is survived by his parents George M. Black III and Susan as well as his brothers George IV and Bejamine (Alice), and niece Lara.

Dorothy Wells

Died: Friday, January 03, 2014
Age: 82
Dorothy Jean (Throop) Wells, formerly of Oxford, passed away on Jan. 3, 2014. She was 82.

She is survived by four children: seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren Frederick Jr. Wells (Lapeer), Paula Wells Primer (Brighton), Susan Wells Hutter (Bentley) and Jeffrey Wells (Flint). She is preceded in death by her husband Frederick Wells.

Dorothy grew up and raised her family in Oxford. She worked as a Physical Therapy aide for many years and later fulfilled a goal of becoming a massage therapist. She retired to Port Huron and then Lapeer, Michigan. She was very gifted at helping people physically heal.

Dorothy will be remembered by her grandchildren Jerimiah, Jole, Joshua, Jake, Mark, Tyrus, Samantha and great-granddaughters Jayden and Isabella.

Dorothy was a member of New Hope Missionary Church of Lapeer.
